Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from Medanta- Medicity, Gurugram!
I am pleased to announce the 8th Kidney Transplant Update- A Practical Approach to be held at, Hotel Leela
Ambience, Gurugram from 16th-17th March 2024.
The Kidney Transplant Update was started in 2014 with the aim of providing a platform for discussion and a
practical approach to managing kidney Transplant patients by engaging faculty and delegates. For the last few
years, we have been doing theme-based meetings to focus on the specific aspects of Kidney Transplantation, so
we can cover important issues in kidney transplantation in detail.
India is currently 3rd in the World in overall Transplantation after the US and China, however, India is probably first
in Living donor Kidney Transplantation in the World as approximately 10,000 Living donor kidney transplants
were performed in India in 2022, out of which 90% of all kidney transplants were from living donors. On the
contrary, there is still a lot of uncertainty about many aspects of living kidney donors e.g.marginal donors, donors
with prediabetes, diabetes, elderly, cardiovascular diseases etc. Malignancy before and after kidney
transplantation is another area, which is often neglected in Indian scenario, one reason could be that patients
were not living so long and many of us feel that malignancy is not a big problem in the context of India, but now
with increasing transplant activity and increase longevity, intense immunosuppression, the incidence of post transplant
malignancy is increasing in India.
The theme of this year is – Issues in Living Donor Kidney Transplantation and Pre and Post Transplant
Malignancy where we will have national and international experts to discuss them.
Our international faculty this year are-
1. Prof Jeremy Chapman does not need any introduction to the Indian nephrologist. Dr Jeremy is the chief
Editor of Transplantation and an authority in transplant malignancy.
2. Dr Dorry Segev has pioneering work on many aspects of transplantation including complex and extreme
living kidney donation and developed the kidney donor profile index.
3. Dr Kassem Safa who is the Director of Living donor kidney transplantation at Harvard Medical School and
Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
As always we will begin our meeting at Lunch on 16th March i.e. 2 pm and it shall culminate by 2 pm on 17th March. It
helps our busy nephrologists to only take one day time out of their busy schedule and help them in a long way to
provide better care for their patients.
We also invite you to send your interesting cases, on these topics, the selected cases will be given an
opportunity to present before the panel of experts, which will generate good discussion and help everyone to
improve their skills. You can email your cases at drshyambansal@gmail.com.
As always, we have kept the registration fee at discounted rates of Rs 7000/- only for delegates and 3500 for the
DM/DNB students. For those who want accommodation, there are limited rooms available at discounted rates in
the brochure, which will be first cum basis. You can also register yourself on our website. i.e.
